You'll fall under the spell of the people of Nouvelle-Acadie and their culture. The four municipalities that make up Nouvelle-Acadie: Saint-Jacques, Saint-Alexis, Saint-Liguori and Sainte-Marie-Salomé, are proud of their very own culture. Discover this destination that combines regional flavors, culture and the great outdoors.
Here's a three-day itinerary to discover the Nouvelle-Acadie region.
DAY 1
Nouvelle-Acadie is not only known for the warm welcome of its inhabitants, but also for the many agritourism businesses that are waiting to be discovered. Pick-your-own farms, distilleries, microbreweries and boutiques selling local products dot the landscape. It's easy to see why Les Fêtes gourmandes de Lanaudière have been held here every year for over 15 years.
For pick-your-own, we choose the Ferme J.L. Leblanc. You can also stop at the Saint-Jacques Aux Fruits du Soleil kiosk for berries and vegetables or an ice cream. In the same row, you'll find Les Jardins Gourmands, a nursery with an impressive selection of plants, perennials, window boxes and vegetable seedlings. For pork, head to Cochon Cent Façons. This family-run business is known for its quality products.
The boutique Belle Excuse is located in Saint-Liguori. Their gourmet products are known throughout the province and we're proud to have this fine company in the region. A trip to this magnificent boutique is a great way to make discoveries for home.
DAY 2
Outdoor enthusiasts won't be disappointed in Nouvelle-Acadie. The Parc nature récréotouristique de Saint-Lin-Laurentides is a must. Accessible free of charge, this park allows you to immerse yourself in the heart of nature close to the city. Interpretive panels, picnic areas and footbridges are available. Dogs are welcome on a leash. Five hiking trails lead visitors to three lakes and a variety of bird species.
Nearby, watercraft rentals are available on the Achigan River. Single or double kayaks, pedalos, paddleboards, canoes, rowboats and even a rabaska are available for those who wish to venture out on the river to enjoy the beautiful summer days from June to September.
The La Suisse Normande cheese factory and its farm store are also well known. The artisanal cheeses made from the farm's goat's milk have won numerous awards. You'll find everything at the épicerie rurale, and you can even pick your own flowers in the summer. A new addition to the Nouvelle-Acadie scene is Vignoble Têtes au Vent.
And while you're there, check out the murals and paintings that make up the Chouette! rural art trail.
DAY 3
Golf enthusiasts will be delighted to meet at Golf Montcalm for a friendly game of golf. Then it's on to Saint-Jacques for an enriching visit to the Maison de la Nouvelle-Acadie. The history and culture of the Lanaudière Acadians deserve to be better known. A permanent exhibition lifts the veil on the issues and the context of the deportation.
The historical tour of Saint-Jacques | Nouvelle-Acadie passes by the Maison de la Nouvelle-Acadie and allows visitors to discover the treasures of rue Principale on foot, passing by the old post office, the Maison Louise-Pariseau, the church and the Parc des Cultures. A podcast accompanies the 1.4 km walk through the history of this corner of Lanaudière.
The day ends with a tasting of organic gin at the Distillerie Grand Dérangement. Learn more about the gin-making process with a visit to the Economuseum. Even the name of the place refers to the history of Nouvelle-Acadie.
