Joliette is an abundance of culture and nature. Between a lively downtown, parks and large green spaces, you'll find a rich and vibrant historical heritage.
Here's an itinerary to discover the urban destination of Joliette, well worth a stopover for a few days.
DAY 1
For a first day in and around Joliette, a visit to the Musée d'art de Joliette (MAJ) is a must. Quebec's largest art museum outside of major urban centres, the MAJ boasts a rich collection of works by internationally renowned artists. Summer exhibitions complement the museum's permanent collection, which offers an exceptional overview of art from the 14th century to the present. If you're visiting the museum on a Thursday, be sure to check out the Summer Happy Hour on the terrace. During these festive weekly gatherings, admission to the exhibitions is free.
After this moment of artistic contemplation, take advantage of the beautiful summer days by paddling down the Rivière L'Assomption. These increasingly popular boats can be rented at three locations near Joliette: Parc Louis-Querbes, just outside the city center; Plage Maria-Goretti in Saint-Charles-Borromée; and Parc des Champs-Élysées in Notre-Dame-des-Prairies, where you can try out a board from the company NatürSup. And what better way to end the day than at Glace Nature for a delicious ice cream made with ingredients from the Lanaudière region.
DAY 2
For your second day in Joliette, we suggest a tour of local agritourism stops. Gourmet discoveries abound in the area. First, we'll indulge in chocolate treats at Choco Chocolat, located in the town center. Then we stop at Vignoble Saint-Thomas to pick up a bottle of their delicious products. The Jardin des Noix is also not far from Joliette. Walnuts and hazelnuts are grown here. In the café-boutique, you can discover a wide range of walnut products and learn more about their cultivation. We can end this tour of gourmet attractions with a good beer from the Alchimiste Microbrasserie. Their tasting room is located right next to the factory in the city's industrial district. Finally, if you're in Joliette on a Saturday, the public market on Place Bourget downtown is a great way to discover a host of other gourmet shops in the area. This market takes place every Saturday during the summer.
DAY 3
This third day in the Joliette area is all about outdoor sports. First, we discover the heritage circuit, which takes us from one historic site to another on a stroll near downtown. Then we hop on our bikes and discover Joliette's various cycling circuits. There are plenty of bike paths in the area, allowing us to discover a wide variety of parks and places. We also stop off at the Maison Antoine-Lacombe to visit its lush gardens. The day can end on the Joliette golf course, which also offers a magnificent terrace for post-golf happy hour.
