Here, you don’t need to climb a mountain to enjoy the area. Instead, the Sentier des Murmures follows the Ouareau River through the forest for 5.5 km, connecting the Pont-Suspendu and Grande-Jetée sections of the Forêt Ouareau Regional Park.

The trail winds through the forest canopy and runs along a wilder stretch of the river, featuring tall pine trees and several access points to the riverbank. Its gentle elevation gain makes it a great option if you’d rather rack up the kilometers than tackle steep climbs. Don’t expect a perfectly smooth path, though. Some sections are narrow, and the terrain includes roots, rocks, steps, and a few steeper slopes.

Since the trail is linear, you can tailor your hike to your itinerary. Hike the 5.5 km between Grande-Jetée and Pont-Suspendu if you’ve arranged for transportation, or retrace your steps for a hike of about 11 km.

If you’re starting from the Pont-Suspendu area, take the opportunity to make a short detour to the bridge that crosses the Ouareau River. On the Grande-Jetée side, other trails allow you to continue exploring the park, particularly near the Petite rivière du Nord.

Access to the Trail

The Sentier des Murmures is accessible from both ends. From the Grande-Jetée side, head to the area accessible via Avenue du Castor in Chertsey and use parking lot P4. The trail manager recommends avoiding the route via Rang 9, which is not passable by car. From the Pont-Suspendu side, access is via Chemin de la Forêt Ouareau in Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci. Since the trail is one-way, plan your return trip if you wish to hike only the 5.5 km between the two sections.
